Why Pura?
Pura Stainless was formed in response to the overwhelming need for beverage bottles that are both environmentally friendly and free of toxins, including BPA (see our FAQ for more info on Bisphenol A or BPA).
The more we researched the toxin-leaching issues and unsavory environmental impacts of plastic water bottles and lids, the more concerned we became. We found it distressing that a number of plastic bottle vendors recommend the replacement of their bottles every six months due to the adverse impact of heat cycling, scuffing, scratches, and scrubbing (just from regular cleaning)!
Unfortunately, aluminum bottles are not much better with their "secret sauce" oven enamel linings/coatings. One also has to wonder how well these linings will hold up when the soft aluminum bottle dents and dings or is exposed to heat cycling.
With these concerns in mind, we created the Pura Stainless line of products which feature food service grade, non-leaching stainless steel lids and a limited lifetime warranty. We live and breathe the mantra One Life... One Bottle™ and we hope you will too!
Made of safe, food-grade stainless steel
After researching dozens of options, we decided to craft our bottles from #304, also known as 18/8, food-grade stainless steel. Known for its resistance to corrosion and staining, and antibacterial properties, it is perfectly suited for use as a beverage container. In fact, many commercial food transport and storage containers are made of #304 stainless steel due to these properties. And because stainless steel does not react with acidic foods or beverages, it will not effect the flavor of your beverage.
No Internal Liner
Due to stainless steel's resistance to corrosion and staining, it requires no application of a surface finish. In other words, the outside, and more importantly the inside, don't need to be coated with any sort of protective liner. With other metal bottles, like aluminum (Sigg, Laken, etc), the inside of the bottle is coated with a proprietary baked-on epoxy liner to keep the aluminum from leaching into your beverage. Stainless steel requires no such lining as the metal does not react with acidic foods or beverages.
Non-toxic and BPA-free
Primarily due to the two characteristics above, Pura bottles are non-toxic and BPA-free. Unlike aluminum bottles, Pura bottles contain no baked-on epoxy liner, and unlike many plastics, stainless steel is inherently BPA-free.
One Life... One Bottle Durability
One of stainless steel's main advantages over other metal and plastic bottles is its strength and durability. Stainless steel doesn't chip and is highly resistant to cracks and punctures. And like most cars, it's strong enough to resist dents from everyday bumps. Cared for properly, your Pura bottle can be safely used for several decades.
100% Recycleable
One of great characteristics of #304 stainless steel is that it's 100% recyclable, so after the many years (perhaps decades) of use you'll get from your Pura bottle you can take comfort in knowing your bottle can be recycled and used for other applications. Even better, our bottles are made from approximately 60% recycled steel. Making a Pura Stainless bottle an excellent cradle-to-cradle purchase.
Chuggable, wide-mouth top
A wide-mouth top means the possiblities are wide-open. Want to chill your beverage with ice? Just drop some cubes in. Want to gulp your drink down? Not a problem. Need to clean your bottle? Just grab the brush and get to work. Want to pour in a fruit-chunk-laden smoothie, or drop in a bag of tea? Go right ahead. Our "chuggable" wide-mouth bottle opening make all of these, and more, possible.
Stainless steel cap
Most reusable water bottles come with a plastic lid. But what good is a metal bottle if you're still using a plastic lid? Pura Stainless lids feature a stainless steel plug, attached to a BPA-free plastic loop. This means your beverage NEVER comes in contact with anything but stainless steel.
Backed by a Lifetime Warranty
We're so confident in our bottles we've backed them with an unprecented lifetime warranty.
