Does stainless steel rust?
Stainless does not "rust" per say. If you see red or orange discoloration it is probably due to some iron particles that have contaminated the surface of the stainless steel and are, themselves, oxidizing. Simply scrub away these particles and any discoloration with soap and a non-metal scrub pad. This will remove the foreign particles and allow the stainless steel to be clean and pure again.
